Student travel policy

The UW offers many opportunities for student engagement abroad. Student health, safety, and security are our top priorities. This policy outlines three important pre-departure requirements for all students traveling abroad for official academic purposes

Links to foreign travel resources from the US State Department’s Consular Information Program and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

UW Study Abroad Insurance

The University of Washington requires that all participants in foreign study or research programs purchase UW Study Abroad Insurance. Students participating in a UW study abroad program will complete insurance enrollment as part of their study abroad application process.

External resources

Certain local businesses that specialize in international travel offer resources specifically for students.

Student Universe

A student-centered travel portal specializing in discounted airfare and hotels. UW Bothell has used this agency to book group travel for previous study abroad programs.

Europe Through the Back Door Travel Center

Experts in European travel, Rick Steves and his team offer knowledgeable advice, workshops (some free-of-charge), a travelers’ library and travel gear for purchase.
