Elective courses

IMD Electives can be fulfilled by courses that fulfill the following criteria:

  • 300-level or higher
  • Not already required for your major
  • May be from any subject area

Many students select elective courses that can be used towards a minor degree.

Special projects

If you want to do an Independent Study (BIMD 498) or Undergraduate Research (BIMD 499) project, please complete these steps:

  1. Talk with a faculty member who will work with you and sponsor your project as soon as possible, at least one month before the quarter begins. Discuss which proposal/contract (498 or 499) you will fill out together.
  2. Meet with the IMD Academic Advisor to learn about how this fits in with your major requirements and for the registration request form.

Petitions

Design-related courses that are not included on the core or elective requirements lists are considered on a case-by-case basis. If you have a syllabus, letter from the instructor, or other detailed description for the class you want to use as an elective, contact the IMD advisor to discuss and gain access to the petition form.
