Johnny Lin, Associate Teaching Professor

Dr. Lin graduated from Stanford University with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and an M.S. in Civil Engineering-Water Resources. After working as an environmental engineer, he returned to school and received his Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences from UCLA. He has held postdoctoral appointments at CIRES/University of Colorado and the University of Chicago and was formerly a Professor of Physics at North Park University in Chicago.

Research

D. Lin’s atmospheric science research examines tropical climate variability using stochastic convective parameterizations and ice-atmosphere interactions in the Arctic. His recent scholarship and service has focused on simple frameworks for modularizing climate models, helping scientists to be more productive using the Python programming language, and virtual interactive learning environments. He also has written a book on environmental ethics.
