University of Washington Bothell Vet Corp Navigator
The WDVA Vet Corps Member position is funded through an AmeriCorps grant. Vet Corps members are stationed at many colleges and organizations, that are dedicated to serve veterans and their families, throughout WA state. Here at UWB, Vet Corps members help veterans and their families achieve their higher education goals by:
- Providing training and support to college faculty, staff and administration to increase awareness of student veterans’ needs;
- Providing a peer connection for veterans new to high education;
- Helping the college to meet the needs of student veterans;
- Providing opportunities for the veteran to be assessed for their benefits, including, but not limited to, medical, housing, counseling, financial resources, etc., and what they may need to be successful academically, professionally, and personally.
Vivian Wei (She/Her)
Vivian (she/her) is a medical student at Washington State University (Spokane) who graduated from the University of Washington with a BS in Biology. This is her third-year as our UWB Vet Corps member and she hopes to be able to continue to assist veterans in their transition from military to academic life as well as help them navigate through higher education. As a peer, she understands the difficulties that students have had to contend with as we shifted to a virtual setting, however, she hopes to be able to bridge those gaps through peer mentoring and provide VA resources when necessary. Furthermore, she hopes to be a resource for faculty, staff and the UWB community around veterans issues.
