Kristy Leissle Speaks on Social Justice and Chocolate

IAS faculty member Kristy Leissle hosted a talk at the NW Chocolate Festival, as part of the event's two-day Educational Program. Kristy's talk took the format of a live interview with Gillian Goddard of Sun Eater Organics, a chocolate company based in Trinidad and Tobago. The topic was colonialism in the cocoa trade, and the conversation between Leissle and Goddard addressed the challenges of enacting social justice in a context that is often defined by inequalities of race, class, gender, and nation. Leissle was formerly Education Director of the NW Chocolate Festival (2010-2013); during her tenure, she developed the largest public education program on chocolate in the country.
