Rachel Luther (she/her)
Sustainability Manager
Email: luther3@uw.edu
Rachel comes to UW Bothell from the University of Washington Seattle campus where she graduated in June 2022 with a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies and Political Science. During her time at UW, she participated in research with the Climate Impacts Group on the Rural Resiliency Portfolio. For her environmental studies capstone, she led a research project that examined the intersections of Indigenous forestry practices and sustainable ecological forestry to identify ways that they can be combined to enhance the adaptation of forests in the Pacific Northwest to climate change. Before the pandemic, she was able to study abroad in New Zealand where she analyzed the working relationship between the Indigenous MaÅri people and the Department of Conservation as well as the complexities of human-ecological systems more generally.
Rachel has been passionate about sustainable practices from a young age, and a climate advocate for many years, working on campaigns with Environment Washington, WashPIRG, Citizens Climate Lobby, and RiverKeeper. Growing up immersed in the recreation community of the Columbia River Gorge instilled a deep appreciation for public lands and the public good of a clean, healthy environment. Rachel is strongly motivated by the climate crisis and is excited to be making a difference in the UW Bothell community.
In her free time, Rachel enjoys getting outside in the Cascade mountains either skiing, trail running, or mountain biking, getting cozy with a book, watching the OL Reign play footy, and pairing her partner’s culinary skills with biodynamic natural wines.
