Neil Simpkins on the politics of access and trauma-informed pedagogy

culture of access

IAS faculty member Neil Simpkins contributed “The Sticky Note Snap” to a symposium on “Enacting a Culture of Access in Our Conference Spaces” that appeared in College Composition and Communication. This piece examines building access in academic conference spaces.

Simpkins also published an essay co-authored with Brenna Swift (UW-Madison) titled “A Trauma-Informed Mentorship Model for Early Career Academics and Graduate Students Experiencing Mental Illness” in Spark: The Online Magazine of the National Center for Institutional Diversity. In this piece, they describe how the principles of trauma-informed pedagogy can be applied for graduate students and pre-tenure faculty.
