Stephanie Chavez joins board of Latino/a Bar Association of Washington

IAS Alum Stephanie Chavez (’14) has always been driven by her passion for law and helping underrepresented communities. A natural extension of this commitment is her recent appointment to the board of the Latino/a Bar Association of Washington (LBAW) as Director of Legal Clinics. The purpose of the LBAW to represent the concerns and goals of Latino attorneys and the Latino people of the State of Washington.

Chavez has worked for non-profits and multiple law firms and is now at Microsoft supporting the Intellectual Property Open Innovation team. Within Microsoft, she helped develop the company’s Pro Bono Program and is a lead member of the Steering Committee. Chavez will begin law school at Seattle University this fall.

Chavez earned a B.A. in Global Studies and minor in Human Rights and maximized her time at UW Bothell. She helped found the Latino Student Union, was a National Collegiate Scholar and participated in study abroad programs to Rome, Zambia, and Brazil. She also worked for the School of Business and for Admissions in diversity outreach. Chavez was the first member of her family to go to college. Moving from a small immigrant town and away from her family, she faced many challenges. However, she was able to find a support system from UW Bothell staff and professors, who created an environment that helped her succeed.
