Master of Education

The one-year Master of Education (M.Ed.) program centers on increasing equity and social justice across educational contexts. Practitioners in K12 classrooms, as well as educators in other sectors, will develop a critical awareness of systemic oppression and methods of enacting social justice for increased student success. Applicants will choose between two M.Ed. Concentrations: Critical Educational Change and Leadership and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Endorsement.
Leadership Development for Educators
Application Deadline: Autumn (TBD)
Leadership Development for Educators (LEDE) is designed for teachers seeking the Washington State Residency Principal endorsement, or other professional development opportunities focused on instructional leadership. Like the M.Ed., this program is aligned to foundations for increasing equity across learning structures. LEDE intentionally prepares teachers to lead equity-driven instruction in their schools and districts.
UW Bothell Pre-Major students who are interested in the Educational Studies major or the Elementary Education Option should meet with an SES academic advisor to plan their application to the School of Educational Studies. The Educational Studies major is an interdisciplinary degree program designed for students who are interested in the field of education in all its forms.
Elementary Education Option

2023 application cycle will open October 1 , 2022
The Elementary Education Option prepares students to become certificated teachers in Washington state elementary schools. Students must seek admission to the program via an internal application. *See below for COVID-10 Admissions Update

The School of Educational Studies offers two post-baccalaureate teacher certification programs. These programs are designed for those who have already earned a Bachelor's Degree. Learn more about teacher certification at UW Bothell here.
Secondary & Middle Level Teacher Certification Post-Baccalaureate
The School of Educational Studies has approved a temporary suspension of admissions to the Secondary & Middle Level Teacher Certification Post-Baccalaureate. The program will be paused for two years (2022-2023; 2023-2024). Currently-enrolled students are not affected. We are reevaluating a program delivery model that will best serve our students, local school districts, and community. Please check back for further updates as they become available.
2021-2022 COVID-19 Admissions Update
In recoginition of the many challenges faced by applicants and school districts during the COVID-19 pandemic, the School of Educational Studies is waiving the 20 hours of classroom experience application requirement for all teacher certification programs for the 2021-2022 application cycle. Elementary Education and Secondary & Middle Level certification applicants may list any classroom experience they may have on their resume, and reflect on their experience when answering application essay questions.
