How to Apply

Application steps

The type of admission process you follow and the online application you complete will depend on whether you are a transfer or post-baccalaureate student, a current UWB student, or a returning student.

Transfer or Post-Baccalaureate students

  1. Complete the new student online application.
  2. Write and submit a personal statement (see prompt below).
  3. Submit your official transcript(s). Electronic submission is recommended. You can find more information about sending your official transcripts to UWB by visiting the Admission webpage.

Internal UW Bothell students

  1. Complete the internal student online application.
  2. Write and submit a personal statement (see prompt below).

Official transcripts are not required for internal UWB student applicants. However, be prepared to include your unofficial transcripts for any college you have attended as part of your application.

Returning UW Bothell Health Studies students

  1. Submit the UWB Returning Student Request Form.
  2. Submit your official transcript(s), if you have attended any institution since you have left UWB. You can find more information about sending your official transcripts to UWB by visiting the Admission webpage. (Note: UW Bothell does not require you to submit transcripts from work done at UW Seattle or UW Tacoma).

Personal statement

Your personal statement is an opportunity to introduce yourself to the admissions committee and explain your interests in the Health Studies program. In our review, your personal statement is as important as your academic record. Please keep your response between 500 and 650 words.

Prompt

  1. What are some of your professional and personal goals as they relate to the Health Studies degree?
  2. Given the core objectives shown below, describe how the Health Studies degree will help you achieve your goals. The Health Studies degree teaches students to:
    • Understand factors that pose risk, or promote prevention for population and community health
    • Identify factors that influence health equity and social justice, 
    • Understand health research within the context of complex population health outcomes
    • Analyze the impacts of healthcare policies to improve the health of diverse communities. 
    • Communicate health information to a variety of audiences
    • Develop as public health leaders and health practitioners
  3. Describe relevant experiences informing your understanding of health. Examples could be personal, professional, community, and/or academic.

Resources

The Writing and Communications Center will provide prospective and current UWB students with guidance on your personal statement's structure and content. Make sure to bring a copy of your rough draft with you when you attend a drop-in session or scheduled appointment.
