Welcome!

Congratulations and welcome to the Master of Science in Community Health & Social Justice. We are excited for you to join our community of learners and change agents. Getting into graduate school is a huge achievement; you belong here and we are thrilled to have you! We highly encourage taking the time to celebrate!

We will work together to center community and to build power for health justice and racial equity so that communities can thrive!

You may have completed some of these steps as instructed when you accepted the offer; however, please review to ensure you have completed them or need to take action.

Step 1: Confirm your enrollment in the program

Log back into the application portal to accept your offer by the deadline on your offer letter. You will be prompted to pay an enrollment deposit. The deposit is applied to your first quarter of tuition. If you need more time to consider the offer or pay the deposit, email the graduate program advisor at cesmith3@uw.edu. We are happy to assist.

Step 2: Submit official transcript(s)

After you accept your offer of admission, send final official transcripts and degree documents to Graduate Enrollment Management Services. Scanned copies uploaded with your online application are not considered official. If your degree is in progress, send once conferred on your transcript.

Step 3: Complete UW central requirements

Log back into the application portal to complete the university immunization requirements and the Husky Prevention & Response Training.

Step 4: Sign up for program advising and orientation

  1. New Student Advising Session (virtual) with the graduate program advisor. Various times available starting in June. Zoom link sent prior to the session. These are small group sessions.
  2. Graduate Library and Writing Center Orientation (virtual): Thursday, September 13th, 5:30-6:45 pm.
  3. Program Orientation & Welcome with graduate faculty (in-person): Tuesday, September, 17th 1:00-3:30 pm. Location details will be sent prior to the event.

If additional new student events are added, the graduate program advisor will email you.

Step 5: Register for classes, set up technology, review resources

  • Set up your UW Student email and activate Two-Factor authentication (2FA) as instructed in the UW IT Student Quick Guide.
  • Mark your calendar to start classes. Day one of your classes is Tuesday, October 1, 2024 (day one of the quarter is 9/25/24). Classes meet Tuesdays 3:30-5:30 pm and 5:45-7:45 pm.
  • Register for classes starting June 17th. Locate class registration information using the Quarterly Time Schedule. Select the School of Nursing and Health Studies then Health Studies (BHS). Enroll in BHS 501 and BHS 502 for full time study. Enroll in BHS 501 only for part-time study. Need help registering? Review the How to Register Guide.
  • Review the program plans of study for the complete full time and part time schedule. Student progress through the program as a group (aka; a cohort). 
  • Follow up with the Office of Financial Aid for questions regarding aid. Tuition is due the 3rd Friday of each quarter. For fall 2024 it is Friday, October 11th.
  • Contact UWB IT if you will need to borrow a laptop and need a Wi-Fi Hotspot. It is first come/first serve and inventory is limited. Don’t wait to request.
  • Familiarize yourself with the university academic calendars which include instructional dates, add/drop course deadlines.
  • Join the UW Graduate School self-paced Online Orientation.
  • Familiarize yourself with and access the student support services which include, but are not limited to, the Student Parent Support Program, Veteran’s Services, and Disability Resources.
