Funded proposals 2023-25

Admissions marketing

The Division of Enrollment Management & Student Affairs, in partnership with three schools in the Division of Academic Affairs and the Office of Marketing & Communications in the Division of Advancement, received funding to build a robust and engaging marketing, communications and outreach infrastructure in support of strategic enrollment management goals.

Three staff positions were created to work on this project: associate director of technology and communications in the Admissions office, marketing and technical writer in the Admissions office, and video producer in Marketing & Communications. Important progress has included updating and modernizing all communication content for prospective students, including a Custom viewbook; providing training to the admissions recruitment staff so they can build and deploy communication campaigns for events and other recruitment activities; and creating two videos for use with prospective and admitted students – UW Bothell Distinction with Chancellor Esterberg and Welcome to UWB with ASUWB President. The admissions marketing team has worked closely with staff in the School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences to develop marketing materials and solutions, which creates the foundation for replicating in other schools.

School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences four-year curriculum

The School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences, in partnership with the Office of Student Academic Success and the Office of Connected Learning, received funding to develop a student-centered, four-year curriculum that streamlines majors, reduces barriers to entry, includes community engaged learning, and builds resilience and predictability as students move toward timely degree completion.

The funding has supported the development of larger cap courses offered in the first and second years, training and hiring of student peer facilitators, and faculty-staff retreats/workshops on the development of a four-year IAS curriculum. The funding also enabled summer support and stipends to be provided to faculty working on this curriculum project.

School of Nursing & Health Studies

The School of Nursing & Health Studies received support for the launch of its new Master of Science in Community Health & Social Justice, as well as partnering with the School of Educational Studies to pilot a graduate marketing strategy.

The MS in Community Health & Social Justice program launched in autumn 2023. Students have provided program evaluation and feedback each quarter, which has been applied to the program. During academic year 2023-24, the Health Studies Curriculum Committee worked on outlining expectations for the cumulative capstone experience, developing information for students about engaging in Community-Engaged Learning and Research throughout the program, and creating a policy around applying Independent Research credits toward program elective requirements. The committee also created engagement documents for prospective community partners to gather projects for the capstone course. The MS program director led a team of faculty and staff to develop a mentorship program, which launched in winter 2024.

School of Educational Studies

The School of Educational Studies received funding to expand program offerings in the M.Ed. program, develop new academic breadth courses for elementary education students, and design support focused on recruitment and retention of future teachers of color. It also received funding to partner with the School of Nursing & Health Studies to pilot a graduate marketing strategy.

Key progress on this project has included completing the design work and curriculum process for the M.Ed. with Leadership Development for Educators (LEDE) concentration; hiring a 50% marketing position, in partnership with SNHS, and launching marketing and recruitment efforts for new M.Ed. concentrations; and assessing needs for BIPOC student supports.

Diversity Center peer mentorship program

The Diversity Center received funding to continue its piloted peer mentorship program that focuses on addressing the barriers of success for marginalized students by connecting them with students trained to offer support and structure as mentors.

The Peer Mentorship Program launched in autumn 2024, and the 2024-25 cohort includes three mentors and nine mentees. Through the program, mentors and mentees will cultivate valuable skills, including leadership, resource navigation, program development, success planning and academic strategies.

Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion fellows program

The Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion received funding to design a fellows program in alignment with ODEI’s three strategic priorities of capacity building for engaging in DEI work, organizational development and alignment of DEI, and creating a more sustainable ODEI.

Officially kicking off in autumn 2024, the Faculty Staff Fellows Program is a year-long opportunity to develop, implement and assess a project of praxis related to DEI efforts on the UW Bothell campus. The current cohort consists of 16 UW Bothell faculty and staff representing diverse schools, teams and units.

Classroom technology upgrades

The Office of Information Technology, in partnership with the Division of Academic Affairs, received funding from the UW Bothell Investment Fund and the Student Technology Fund for technology upgrades to transform spaces into hybrid/hyflex classrooms that will enhance digital accessibility and improve the student experience.

IT engaged Vantage Technology Consulting in autumn 2023 to assist with evaluating infrastructure needs and to help develop a recommended strategy for classroom upgrades. Based on the recommendations from Vantage and in consultation with the Space Planning Group and the vice chancellor for Planning & Administration, six classrooms have been identified for upgrades, with the work beginning in FY 2025.
