Campus Safety Services
This training will provide a general overview of the services Campus Safety provides to the community. We also highlight the Campus Safety website and discuss Emergency Management and Environmental Health and Safety.
Security Assessment & Situational Awareness in the Workplace
This training will assess the environment of your workspace to include office layout, ingress and egress routes. This training will also discuss personal safety and situational awareness.
Active Shooter Response
This training will provide you with the overall awareness and responses to an active shooter on campus.
Know Your Rights
This training will assist you with understanding your encounters with law enforcement. We will discuss state laws and law enforcement protocols during these encounters.
Emergency Preparedness
Learn more about building fire life safety equipment, campus emergency preparedness resources, emergency communications, how to safely evacuate from a building and where to evacuate to, earthquake safety and fire prevention evaluations, health & safety resources, and what more you can do to prepare as an individual or department.
Additional Self Study Emergency Management Training Classes
First Aid/CPR/AED Training
Campus Safety provides First Aid/CPR/AED certification training upon request. Training is a self-paced online curriculum with an in-person hands-on practicum. Certification is valid for 2 years. The course covers the following topics:
- Scene Assessment and Safety
- Medical Emergencies (asthma, allergic reactions, heart attack, stroke, diabetes, seizures)
- Injury Emergencies (bleeding, shock, wounds, spinal inquiries, broken bones and sprains)
- Environmental Emergencies (bites, stings, temperature related injuries, poison emergencies)
- Adult CPR (Compressions and Breathing)
- AED use
- Adult Choking
Ergonomic Evaluation & Consultation
Ergonomics is the practice of fitting the job to the individual, which can help prevent work-related musculoskeletal injuries. EH&S provides guidance and training resources & consultations are available upon request.
Fire Extinguisher Training
Learn the general principles of fire extinguisher use, and then practice what you've learned with a hands-on portable fire extinguisher to extinguish a simulated fire. Trainings are available for groups and departments. Annual refresher training is recommended.
Back Safety Awareness
Learn about back safety principles, risk factors for back injuries, and tips for maintaining a healthy back to help reduce or prevent work-related back injuries, unnecessary pain and mobility issues. This training is great for those who may do heavy or repetitive lifting as well as for those who sit for long periods during the day.
Emergency Evacuation Warden Training
Learn about building evacuation warden duties in the event of a fire or other building emergency. This class covers how to plan and respond for evacuation drills, building emergency alarm signals, evacuation routes, areas of refuge, exterior assembly areas and procedures for evacuations. Annual refresher training is recommended.
Respiratory Protection Training & Fit Testing
Learn about UW's requirements and procedures for using respiratory protection in a safe and effective way that is compliant with regulations. If you wear or need to wear a respirator, including N95 dust masks, to control workplace exposures to airborne contaminates you must coordinate with UWB EH&S for medical clearance, training and fit testing. Not sure if you need a respirator or dust mask? UWB EH&S can also conduct hazard assessments to help identify other means of protection. Annual refresher training and fit testing is required.
Asbestos and other Regulated Material Training
Building materials can contain a number of hazardous components that, if disturbed, can pose a health risk to workers and occupants. Regulated building materials include asbestos, lead, PCBs, mercury, CFCs and crystalline silica. These materials may exist in walls, floors, ceilings, insulation, caulk, glazing, mastic, paint, light fixtures, laboratory bench tops, fume hoods, and other equipment. UWB EH&S can assist with identifying regulated materials, provide training on the health and environmental hazards, provide air sampling for potential exposures, and assist with requesting building material surveys.
Outdoor Heat Exposure and Heat Related Illness
This training provides outdoor heat exposure information, including how to recognize and control heat exposure and symptoms of heat illness. This training is required for all University personnel (and their supervisors) who work outdoors between May 1 through September 30 at or above 89 degrees Fahrenheit. We can also work with you to develop or update your required written Outdoor Heat Exposure Prevention Plan. Annual refresher training is required.
Wildfire Smoke Safety
This training helps provide employees with the information about how to protect themselves when working outdoors and the Air Quality Index (AQI) is at 69 or higher, and what additional exposure controls must be implements when the AQI reached 101, including respiratory protection. Annual refresher training is required.
