Grads all score at Safeco Field commencement
The University of Washington Bothell welcomed more than 2,200 new alumni with the Class of 2018’s commencement June 10 at Safeco Field. The total class — 1,954 students receiving their bachelor’s degree and 302 receiving their master’s — is nearly 300 students larger than last year’s class.

Veteran alumnus on State Department fellowship
Thanks to a timely notice from UW Bothell, Ryan Dzakovic won a Veterans Innovation Partnership fellowship for a year-long position with the State Department’s Office of Global Partnerships in Washington, D.C. Dzakovic (master’s cultural studies ’15) is an Army reservist who served in Iraq and Uganda.

Cruz Garibay wins Fulbright award
UW Bothell graduate Cruz Garibay, who grew up in an immigrant family in Yakima and was the 2015 UW Homecoming King, won a 2018 Fulbright grant to Brazil. The fifth UW Bothell recipient of a U.S. student Fulbright award, Garibay will work as an English teaching assistant at a university.

Successful fundraiser for Anna Bui endowment
About 200 people attended a fundraiser in Mukilteo, Washington, that brought in nearly $41,000 for the Anna Bui World of Hope Scholarship at the University of Washington Bothell. With previous donations, the endowment fund now has nearly $59,000 to support study abroad experiences for other students in memory of 19-year-old Bui who was killed last summer shortly after traveling in Europe for three weeks.
