UW Bothell leaders win engineering awards

Two University of Washington Bothell leaders have been honored by the Puget Sound Engineering Council as top talents in the region. Elaine Scott, dean of the School of STEM, and Wendy Lawrence, a UW Bothell advisory board member, received their awards at a banquet at the Museum of Flight in Seattle on February 13. Scott was named 2016 Academic Engineer of the Year and veteran astronaut Lawrence was recognized for her many contributions to education.

Women in leadership forum

The University of Washington Bothell is hosting a free one-day forum with a national non-partisan organization that encourages women to move into the political arena. “research has shown that women typically don’t run for office until they are prompted by a particular issue,” says Annette Anderson, director of curriculum, academic affairs. She organized Friday’s event at the Activities and Recreation Center with the Center for American Women & Politics.

UW Bothell welcomed students from the University of the Free State (UFS) in Bloemfontein, South Africa this month. They were part of Leadership for Change, a global partnership that teaches the value of diversity and builds leadership skills.

State Supreme Court goes to class

The Washington Supreme Court conducts a traveling court two to three times per year, and UW Bothell was chosen as its first site for 2016. Faculty and students took advantage of a rare learning opportunity both inside and outside the classroom.
