New role focuses on faculty success

A faculty member since 2006, Dr. Wadiya Udell will now focus on faculty career navigation and managing systemic improvements.

The University of Washington Bothell has named Dr. Wadiya Udell as the associate vice chancellor for faculty success, effective June 1, 2024.

Udell, a professor in the School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences, has been serving as interim assistant vice chancellor for faculty success since August 2022. Since joining UW Bothell in 2006, she has served in numerous leadership roles, including as an interim associate dean for faculty development and scholarship for the School of IAS and as a member of the Campus Council for Promotion and Tenure.

“I want to extend my gratitude and congratulations to Dr. Udell,” said Dr. Sharon A. Jones, vice chancellor for Academic Affairs. “She has demonstrated exemplary leadership, and I look forward to working with her to provide our faculty with the resources to be the best they can be for our students and the region.”

Udell said she welcomes the opportunity to lead the expansion and restructuring of the Office of Faculty Success. “The restructured office will allow for a more cohesive approach to faculty development and success, and will provide greater coordination of resources to support UW Bothell faculty.”

The OFS will include the Office of Sponsored Research and the Learning & Teaching Collaborative, allowing for synchrony between support for faculty pedagogy and the scholarship of teaching and learning, and for more opportunities to support faculty through the grant lifecycle.

“Faculty are the foundation and are at the heart of UW Bothell’s success,” said Udell. She cited scholarship that makes positive impacts in faculty members’ respective fields and communities as well as the thoughtful and effective teaching that demonstrates a strong commitment to student success.

“We have amazing faculty across all ranks and tracks, and our office is dedicated to promoting their success,” Udell said. “My vision is for UW Bothell to be able to recruit and retain faculty because we are known for faculty who excel at their jobs, feel valued and supported across campus, and experience care and support for their well-being.”
