About Dr. Choi
Dr. Daewoung (Joey) Choi is an Assistant Professor of Finance at the University of Washington Bothell School of Business. He holds a Ph.D. in Finance, an M.S. in Applied Statistics, and an M.S. in Finance from the University of Alabama.
Dr. Choi’s research focuses on empirical corporate finance, particularly corporate governance, executive compensation, ESG (environmental, social, and governance) issues, and CSR (corporate social responsibility). His work has been published in prominent academic journals such as the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Business Finance & Accounting, and British Accounting Review. His research has been presented at major international conferences, including the American Finance Association, European Finance Association, Swiss Society for Financial Market Research, and the China International Conference in Finance. Dr. Choi’s research has received numerous accolades, including best paper awards from the Eastern Finance Association, the British Accounting Review Special Issue Conference, and the Joint Conference with the Allied Korea Finance Associations.
At UW Bothell, Dr. Choi teaches courses in Business Finance and Investments, drawing on his extensive teaching experience at Louisiana State University Shreveport, where he was recognized with the Educator Impact Award. Beyond academia, Dr. Choi actively contributes to the professional community as the Secretary General of the Korea America Finance Association for the 2024–2027 term. His professional service includes leadership roles at conferences, journal reviews, and judging academic competitions such as the Boeing UW Innovation Challenge.
Dr. Choi’s teaching philosophy integrates his deep research expertise with practical financial applications, preparing students to excel in complex and evolving financial landscapes.
