BOTHELL, Wash. – The University of Washington Board of Regents has approved a proposal to name three deans to head three schools at the University of Washington Bothell. At a university, a dean serves as academic leader of a school and is the bridge between the faculty and senior administration.

The new deans and their schools are:

Bruce Burgett, School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences

Burgett earned his bachelor’s and doctoral degree in English at the University of California, Berkeley. His research interests include American studies, cultural studies, queer studies, critical race studies, and interdisciplinary and public scholarship.

Sandeep Krishnamurthy, School of Business

Krishnamurthy holds a Ph.D. in marketing from the University of Arizona and a B.Tech in chemical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Mumbai. His areas of expertise include marketing, e-commerce and game theory. He joined UW Bothell in 1996.

Elaine Scott, School of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics

Scott joined UW Bothell in 2012; she was previously professor and director of engineering programs at Seattle Pacific University. She holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in agricultural engineering from the University of California, Davis. She also holds doctoral degrees in agricultural engineering and mechanical engineering from Michigan State University.

As a branch campus of the University of Washington, the University of Washington Bothell was created with academic programs, rather than schools. The proposal approved by the Board of Regents recognizes that the “UW Bothell Schools of Business; Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences; and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics have now reached a maturity, size, support structure and status, with full potential for further growth to warrant their change of status to collegiate-level schools headed by deans.”

“This is a wonderful acknowledgement of the accomplishments of the entire campus and growth of these three academic units,” said Chancellor Kenyon S. Chan in a message to the campus.

With more than 4,200 students, UW Bothell is now the fastest-growing public university in the state of Washington. About 50 percent of the University of Washington’s 2012 enrollment growth came from the UW Bothell campus.

Burgett, Krishnamurthy and Scott previously held the title of director of their respective programs. The change in title is effective March 16.
