UW Bothell MBA program primarily admits students for autumn quarter of each year. To be considered for MBA classes beginning in early September, application deadlines are in early February and mid-April each year. After the April deadline, we accept applications on a space available basis. More details are available at http://www.uwb.edu/mba/mbaadmissions/mbadeadlines.
NOTE: International applicants needing an F1 visa may only apply to and start the program in Autumn quarter.

Are there any prerequisites to apply for the MBA? Is an undergraduate degree in business required for admissions? back to top
We welcome all applicants, including those with undergraduate degrees in areas not in than business. However, applicants must hold:
1) a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university in the U.S, or its equivalent from a foreign institution, and must have at least a 3.0 grade-point-average (on a 4 point scale) for the last 90 graded quarter credits or 60 graded semester credits**.
2) one of the following: a master’s degree, a graduate doctoral degree, or any of the following professional doctoral degrees: Doctor of Dentistry (D.D.S.), Doctor of Law (J.D.), Doctor of Medicine (M.D.), Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.), Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.). The degree must be from a regionally accredited college or university in the U.S. or its equivalent from a foreign institution, and must have at least a 3.0 grade-point-average (on a 4 point scale) calculated from the total cumulative credits.
If an applicant's native language was not English, they may be required to demonstrate English proficiency.
No specific prerequisite courses are required to apply, however prior any quantitative courseork and experience is reviewed as part of the admissions evaluation.
Applicants must minimally have at least two years of full time equivalent professional level work experience.
What do I need to complete and submit my application to the MBA programs? back to top
Applicants must complete and submit their application, supplemental work form, resume, and two short essays. In years that the GMAT is required, applicants should also arrange to send us the official GMAT scores and two professional letters of recommendation; please also upload an unofficial transcript. The Graduate School will request an official transcript and, if needed, proof of English proficiency and financial ability upon admission. See the application checklist for more details.
Can I send my transcripts prior to applying? back to top
Please do not send official transcripts or any documents to UW Bothell. The online application will require that you upload 1 PDF document of your unofficial transcript for each university from which you attained a degree. Then, if admitted, the UW Graduate School will request and provide instructions for you to submit an official transcript.
How much emphasis do you place on the undergraduate GPA? back to top
As well as a Grade Point Average (GPA), applications are reviewed holistically based upon essays, prior professional work experience, career progression, any test scores, professional recommendations, and other evidence of achievement.
As per the UW Graduate School, applicants to graduate school are required to have at least a 3.0 grade-point-average (on a 4 point scale) for the bachelor degree's last 90 quarter credits, OR, the last 60 semester credits. Note additional considerations below:
- If your GPA is below the required 3.0, please explain the cause in the optional 3rd essay space (the blank space after 2nd essay).
- For a Master’s, doctoral, or professional degree, the total cumulative average may be used.
- If you earned additional credits from an accredited institution after your degree, you may include these credits in calculating your GPA.
How much emphasis do you place on full-time work experience? back to top
Almost all admitted MBA students have at least two years of full-time work experience before they enter the MBA program. It is preferred for our students have earned this experience after their undergraduate education. Our students bring a wide range of experiences to the classroom, having worked in industries such as software, aerospace, health services, insurance, financial services, telecom services and non-profits. We strongly encourage and celebrate a diversity of students, backgrounds, viewpoints and cultures in our classrooms.

Yes, in some cases. Once an applicant has submitted all the required materials, the application will be reviewed and selected applicants may be invited to meet with the MBA Admissions Committee.
Does my foreign degree qualify me to apply to your MBA Program? back to top
Applicants must have at least a four year baccalaureate degree equivalent to a regionally accredited U.S. institution to apply for admission. The official assessment of academic preparation of international student applicants will be done by the UW Graduate School after you have applied to our program.
Can I take an individual MBA course without enrolling into the entire program? back to top
No, we do not accept any Graduate Non-Matriculated (GNM) students.
What does Graduate Non-Matriculated (GNM) status mean, and do you accept GNM or Visiting Graduate Students? back to top
Graduate Non-Matriculated (GNM) status allows post baccalaureate students who are not presently seeking a graduate degree at the University of Washington to take UW graduate courses and apply the credits toward degree requirements should they later be accepted into a graduate program at the UW. Read more about the GNM status.
Our MBA program does not accept GNM or Visiting Graduate Students at this time.
Is the GMAT/GRE currently required? back to top
The GMAT/GRE requirement is temporarily suspended and is not required for 2022 applications. Submission of GMAT/GRE score is not required, but may make your application more competitive.
If you are applying, you may submit your online application any time before or after taking the exam. However, if you apply in 2022 without scores and you have plans to test and report scores, please email an update of your plans to firstname.lastname@example.org. Additional details below:

If you take an exam more than once, your highest submitted score will be used for the application review.
Note: 2023 applicants: Any GMAT/GRE requirement for 2023 or beyond will be announced and posted on our website in Autmn, 2022. If exam scores are required, GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) or GRE (Graduate Records Examination) scores must be submitted unless you qualify for a GMAT/GRE waiver. Can GRE be used in place of a GMAT? back to top
Although we prefer the GMAT, we will accept GRE scores as well. Official exam scores older than 5 years are still considered. The GRE/GMAT Conversion table is used to make the scores comparable.
How do I schedule the test and report my scores? back to top
Scheduling: Schedule an appointment for the GMAT.
Validity: Official GMAT (and GRE) scores older than five years are still considered. If you have taken the GMAT (or GRE) more than once, we will consider only your highest score, but previously submitted scores may sometimes be automatically uploaded by the UW online application program.
Locations: The GMAT test may be taken at the following regional locations: Seattle (Northgate), Renton, Victoria BC, Yakima, Vancouver BC and Spokane. If you have disabilities, special accommodations may be available – please consult the GMAC website for more information.
Prep: To prepare for the GMAT, use the tutorials at the GMAC site or GMAT prep books that you will find in bookstores. In addition, GMAT prep classes are offered by professional tutoring organizations such as Princeton Review, Kaplan, Magoosh, Manhattan, Veritas. UW Bothell has no affiliation with any of these providers.
Reporting: The official GMAT scores must be received by the UW directly from GMAC by using the UW institution code 4854.
- You can “Self-report GMAT scores” on your application if you have them available with you from an earlier test date. If you have questions about old scores, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
- If you take the GMAT exam near the application deadline, please send the unofficial verbal and quantitative scores provided immediately after completing the test to email@example.com; the writing score will reach us with your official results in about one week after the test. However, please note that we will still need the official GMAT scores.

In years that the GMAT is required, can I qualify for a GMAT/GRE waiver? back to top
Upon applying, if the GMAT or GRE is required, an applicant may request a GMAT/GRE waiver if they have one or more of the specified degrees/certifications (CPA, CFA,CMA or CPIM), preferably a 3.0 or above undergraduate cumulative GPA, and a minimum of 2 years of professional work experience upon evaluation. When and where are classes held ? back to top
MBA applicants indicate their cohort preference for required courses, either Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays. On either schedule the students may pursue the Technology MBA, Leadership MBA, or self-selected option. Required classes for one cohort will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00-9:30 p.m. Required classes for the other cohort will be Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00-9:30 p.m. Electives may be on Monday through Thursdays, and on Saturdays. Times for electives may vary during the week, but are mostly from 6-9:30pm. Saturday elective classes are usually 9am – 12:30pm / 1:00pm - 4:30pm.
How many classes do I take per quarter? back to top
Our Evening MBA Programs are designed to allow working professionals the convenience of maintaining their careers and family life while going to school just 2 evenings per week. In most quarters you will be in classes 2 evenings every week during the quarter.
What is the length of time it will take to complete a degree? back to top
The UW Bothell MBA with the LMBA, TMBA, or general options are designed to be completed in 6-7 quarters (18-21 months of classes taken during 2 “academic years”), and most students complete the program within this time. Students’ timing may differ slightly depending on when they choose to take their electives. UW policy allows students to take up to 6 years to complete their master's degree.

AACSB Accreditation represents the highest standard of achievement for business schools worldwide. Less than 5% of the world's 13,000 business programs have earned AACSB Accreditation. AACSB-accredited schools produce graduates that are highly skilled and more desirable to employers than other non-accredited schools. AACSB-accredited schools have the highest quality faculty, relevant and challenging curriculum, and provide educational and career opportunities that are not found at other business schools.
Is it possible to have any course(s) waived if taken previously or if have had comparable course work in the past? back to top
An applicant or existing student working toward the master's degree may petition for permission to transfer to the University of Washington a maximum of 6 quarter credits of graduate level course work taken at another AACSB-accredited academic institution, provided that course work is equivalent to the course work in the UWB MBA program. The credits sought to be transferred may not have been used to satisfy requirements for another degree.

Tuition & Financial Aid
What is the tuition? Will it stay the same throughout the program? back to top
Tuition for the MBA program is determined by the UW Board of Regents annually. The tuition is a flat rate for students who are enrolled from 7 credits up to 18 credits per quarter; the typical UW Bothell MBA student is enrolled in 8 to 12 credits per quarter. Please note that tuition for admitted MBA Students will stay the same during the first two academic years. Summer quarter tuition is set independently but will be approximately the same as academic quarter tuition.
How do I qualify as being a Washington state resident? back to top
To qualify as a legal Washington state resident you must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, immigrant or refugee and have physically resided in the state of Washington for purposes other than educational for the last 12 consecutive months. Holders of any other types of visas will not qualify. For further information, please see the UW Student Guide on Understanding Washington State Residency.
Is financial aid available? back to top
Yes, financial aid is available. To learn more about financial aid and scholarships at UW Bothell, please check our financial aid page for qualified students. In most cases, FAFSA applications are required for financial aid consideration. We recommend that students complete the FAFSA online or mail a completed FAFSA application. Returning students should complete the FAFSA no later than February 15. Incoming students should complete FAFSA as soon as possible after they have been admitted to the MBA programs. As a Washington state employee, are any MBA classes covered by the Washington State Tuition Exemption Program? back to top
The University of Washington Bothell (UW Bothell) School of Business allows limited enrollment for Washington state employees using tuition exemption. Students in the MBA Program may use tuition exemption to enroll in any but the following MBA courses:
- B BUS 501: Leadership, Team Process and Decision Making
- B BUS 502: Business Statistics
- B BUS 503: Financial Reporting and Analysis
- B BUS 504: Microeconomics for Business
- B BUS 505: Financial Management
- B BUS 506: Marketing Management
- B BUS 512: Strategic Management
Students will be allowed to use their tuition exemption to enroll in MBA courses other than those listed above, on a space‐available basis.
- Registration Procedure
- In order to register using tuition exemption, students should carefully follow the steps identified in UW Bothell registration guidelines. Questions regarding the procedure are to be directed to the UW Bothell Registrar.
- The Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University of Washington Bothell is responsible for the content of this policy. Changes to this policy have to be approved by the Chancellor of the University of Washington Bothell.
As a veteran, where can I find information regarding the VA Tuition Reduction Program? back to top
If you are an active or reserve veteran who has served in active federal service in a war or conflict fought on foreign soil or international waters, you may be eligible for the VA Tuition Reduction Program. The School of Business offers MBA Career Coaching during the year with professional career coaches. Career coaches provide seminars on managing your career, resume and interviewing clinics, as well as individual coaching sessions to discuss career options and trajectories.
At the campus level, UW Bothell Career Services provides internship listings, career fairs, electronic job postings, and career information and services to assist students and alumni in making connections between academic programs, career options and long-range goals. Also available are workshops and counseling to help students develop job search skills.
