The IAS Circle of Recognition 2020

Bruce BurgettEvery May, we celebrate the significant accomplishments of IAS students, alumni, and community partners at our annual Circle of Recognition event.  Individuals and organizations who win awards during the academic year in IAS or at the UW are introduced by a faculty or staff member of their choice, and accompanied by friends and family members who have encouraged and enabled their success.  This year recognition is virtual, with video tributes.  But it maintains the intent of testifying to the larger community of support that underwrites individual achievement.

In this issue of Intersections, we share those stories and videos with you as part of the larger IAS community.  Across them all, you will find themes of resilience and discovery, opportunity and leadership.  One of the reasons IAS students and alumni receive a disproportionate share of UW-wide awards is that the interdisciplinary and engaged education we provide encourages synthesis and integration, both in school and after graduation.  You will find this theme to be particularly strong in the UW Husky 100 Awards.

As you read and view these stories, please join me in congratulating all of the award recipients, and please allow me to thank those of you who are reading this newsletter for supporting their success.

As always, you can learn more about what students, faculty, and alumni are doing on the IAS News Blog.  To keep up to date on IAS events open to the campus and the public, you can also subscribe to a weekly digest of upcoming events here.  If you are an IAS alum, discover ways to connect and get involved by visiting our alumni page online.
