As a cohort program, the MFA in Creative Writing & Poetics admits students only for Autumn Quarter of each year.
Priority application deadline is February 1 annually (or the following Monday, if February 1 lands on a weekend).
Applicants who apply by priority deadline are given first consideration for admission to the program and for competitive merit-based funding.
Applicants may begin the application process at any time. Applications will be reviewed once submitted and after February 1.
Priority deadline applicants can expect to receive notification regarding admissions decisions the first week of March. Admitted students are asked to return their acceptance of offers by April 15 (or request an extension).
The MFA in Creative Writing & Poetics will accept and review applications on a rolling basis if space remains open in the program after April 15. Please inquire about space available in the program with the IAS Graduate Office.
See How to Apply for details on application and admissions requirements.
For students entering the MFA in 2022, the cost of tuition for the 2022-2023 academic year is $730 per credit or $7,300 per quarter of full-time (10 credits) study.
The university does apply some fees for technology, student activities, and similar.
The MFA in Creative Writing & Poetics is not a state-based program. There is no tuition/fee differential for Washington state residents and non-residents, and state employee tuition exemption does not apply to this program.
Funding assistance may be available. Applicants to the University of Washington should use the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to apply for financial aid. Consult the UW Bothell Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships for more information.
A limited number of scholarships may be available to incoming students. Please see our Program Funding page for details.
