  1. When can I buy parking permits?

Parking permits may be purchased approximately one month before the beginning of each next quarter. Student annual permits go on sale approximately one month before Fall Quarter, and Staff/Faculty annual permits for the subsequent year go on sale approximately one month prior to July 1st.  Order your permit online at the Bothell Campus Permit Store (linked here), for mail delivery or pickup at Commuter Services Room 1450, Husky Hall.  You may also purchase a permit with cash or check at the the Cashier’s Office office in Husky Hall.

  1. What are the fines for parking citations? Where can fines be paid?

Fines for parking citations vary depending on the type of citation issued. For information about various fines, click here. Payment for all fines are handled through the Bothell Campus Permit Store (linked here).

  1. Who decides what the permit rates will be, and who is in charge of determining the parking and transportation practices for Bothell Campus, including making any changes to those practices?

All rates, rate increases, and major changes to the operations of the Commuter Services department are discussed and approved by the Bothell Campus Commuter Services Task Force.

  1. What is the purpose of the Bothell Campus Commuter Services Task Force? Why was this group established? What is their role?

The 18-member Bothell Campus commuter Services Task Force is a joint group composed of students, faculty, and staff from University of Washington Bothell and Cascadia College. The task force was established in 2010 to provide broad representation for reviewing parking and transportation policies that affect the campus community. Members of the task force are appointed by the UW Bothell Chancellor and Cascadia College President. The task force typically meets every month of the academic year.

  1. Why do I need to pay for parking on the Bothell Campus

Parking and transportation systems on the Bothell campus and all the campuses of all State of Washington public colleges and universities are to be financially self-sustaining. All operations, maintenance, and capital improvements are to be paid for by the respective Commuter Services departments. This means all safety improvements, payments for use of space, new signage, repainting stalls and stall numbers, upgraded lighting, waste collection, and all other aspects of maintaining parking space on campus, must be paid for by the Commuter Services department and not by State of Washington funds.

  1. The parking rates have been increased, why aren’t there more parking spaces available on campus?

Rate increases are approved by the Commuter Services Task Force only when absolutely necessary in order to operate the Commuter Services department. The most recent increase in permit prices also helps to subsidize the cost of a UPASS for campus community members who rely on transit in order to get to campus. With increased transit cost and decreased service, it is important we strive to be as accommodating as possible to those who rely on the local transit services. Without the increase in rates, we would not have been able to continue offering the UPASS for reasonable rates.

  1. Why was the week long grace period at the beginning of each quarter eliminated?

Now that we have an online system for buying and receiving permits, there is no longer the need to be on campus to purchase and pick up your permit. When purchasing your permit online, you will have the option to print out a temporary permit to display it on your dashboard until your permit arrives in the mail. Additionally, the Commuter Services Task Force found that many campus members, who would otherwise not drive to campus, were taking advantage of the free week of parking, resulting in over-capacity parking on campus. The elimination of the grace period is, in part, to help dissuade people from waiting until the last minute to buy their permits, as well as to alleviate being over-capacity parking at the beginning of each quarter.
