Jennifer Ha receives the U.S. Student Fulbright grant to Taiwan 2023-2024

Jennifer Ha, 2021 graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with the ESOL endorsement, received a U.S. Student Fulbright grant to become an English Teaching Assistant in Taiwan during the 2023-24 academic year. Jennifer currently works as a substitute teacher in Seattle Public Schools and she is passionate about making classrooms more inclusive for multilingual students.  In Taiwan, she hopes to incorporate the arts and storytelling into her lessons with elementary school kids, and is eager to learn from Taiwanese teachers how they prioritize multicultural education.

Dr. Shima Abadi and Rachel Aronson speak on the UW FieldSound Podcast on May 4 about "Ocean Acoustics"

Shima Abadi is Director of the Ocean Data Lab and Assistant Professor with the UW School of Oceanography. She discusses ocean acoustics and analyzing data to understand the soundscape of underwater environments.  Rachel Aronson holds an M.M.A. from the University of Washington’s School of Marine and Environmental Affairs and leads the Quiet Sound Program. Aronson shares about the collaborative program dedicated to reducing noise impacts to Southern Resident Killer Whales from large commercial vessels in Puget Sound.

“I was raised to remember that I come from those who survived.” : A discussion with Justice Raquel Montoya-Lewis

Justice Raquel Montoya-Lewis, the first Native American to serve on the Washington State Supreme Court, called in from her home in Olympia, a judge’s bench and courtroom set as her background, to talk with us about the impact of Native boarding schools on her community. Written by UW Bothell students in Laura Umetsu’s community-engaged learning BBUS 307: Business Writing course. Students conducted research, data collection, interviews with stakeholders, and wrote organizational web-based press releases that could be used to support an organizational objective​.
