Meet the Candidates

The following candidates have registered to appear on the ASUWB 2022 Spring Elections Ballot. Anyone who wishes to run for a position who did not register in time will not be listed below, and will act as a write-in candidate. Their names will not appear in the official ballot.

President Candidate

Isabeau Rosen

Why do you want to run for ASUWB?

“I am so grateful for all that this campus and the students that inhabit it have done for me. During such tumultuous times we’ve been able to accomplish some amazing things! It would be such an honor for me to serve UWB. The student leaders of the past few years have done excellent work and I am dedicated to continuing those efforts and connecting students to all the resources available to them. From smaller things like how to get connected with faculty, to how to get involved in Olympia.”

What are your three main goals that you would like to accomplish during the 2022-2023 academic year?

“I would like to provide students with direct opportunities to give input and feedback so that you don’t need to come looking for us. Students will know the members of the ASUWB and how we can serve them by seeing our faces and learning more at new and exciting campus events! For Tri-Campus relations, I will make sure that Bothell gets a fair say in decisions made that affect us all. Our students deserve just as much of a say as Seattle or Tacoma. I will personally vouch for the incredible character and spirit of you all! I will be in direct communication with students so they know what, how, and why decisions are being made. With my proposed additions to the ASUWB Newsletter, students can build personal connections with next year’s cabinet to truly hold us accountable and keep the focus where it should be: the students.”

Vice President Candidate

Cody Becker

Why do you want to run for ASUWB?

“UW Bothell has become something of a second home for me, and I truly feel like I have become a member of the amazing community here! I believe that there is always room for improvement in even the greatest things, and I hope to bring some improvement to this community as the next Vice President of ASUWB. After serving as Secretary of Club Council this past year, I have had the opportunity to hear the voices of hundreds of students and campus leaders. Many students have voiced their thoughts, and I have listened carefully. I see a need for more opportunities for engagement on campus, an increase in accessibility, and higher overall transparency from ASUWB. I aim to take what I have learned during my experience on Club Council, as well as what I will continue to learn on ASUWB, and apply it to make positive change in our community. I know that I can bring these changes and more to UW Bothell if elected as Vice President, and I hope that doing so will make our campus a better place than how we found it!”

What are your three main goals that you would like to accomplish during the 2022-2023 academic year?

“Community, Accessibility, and Transparency! I believe UW Bothell needs to revive its student life, and make it even stronger than it was before covid. As ASUWB Vice President, I will bring new activities, events, and opportunities to campus that will allow students to receive the real college experience that so many are looking for. Another key issue is ensuring that all aspects of life at UW Bothell are accessible for everyone, no matter their needs. As someone who has experienced accessibility issues first hand during my education, I know the importance of being able to voice accessibility needs to those who can make change. As Vice President, I will ensure that ASUWB listens to and addresses the needs of everyone at UW Bothell by bringing these issues to those who can make the changes needed. Finally, ensuring that all of ASUWB’s important decisions are made public is key to keeping the student government working for the students. As Vice President, I will increase transparency about all decisions, plans, and goals made by our team by publishing that information on social media, as well as by hosting regular town halls to receive feedback.”

Director of Campus Partnerships Candidate

Isatou Ceesay

Why do you want to run for ASUWB?

“During my freshman year, I had the amazing opportunity of becoming an ASUWB leader. This allowed me to become a member of the Health and Wellness Resources Committee between UW Bothell and Cascadia. I was able to shadow many ASUWB officers and traveled to Olympia for Huskies on the hill to lobby with other UW students. Through that experience, I understood the importance of student leadership and how effective it can be. Since then, I have made conscious efforts to get involved in leadership roles. Last year I had the honor of being selected as a student representative in the committee search for a new Assistant Vice Chancellor of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. It was liberating to have been a part of an amazing committee and get the opportunity to advocate on behalf of the Black voice on campus. Such opportunities like these are ones that I don’t hesitate to take upon. As it gives students like me a chance to give input and create changes towards steps to further building a stronger and inclusive community. I have a strong desire to be that voice because I so long understood how it feels to be underrepresented.”

What are your three main goals that you would like to accomplish during the 2022-2023 academic year?

“It’s important to understand that entering the university setting can be quite unnerving. With the many expectations and students commonly tend to feel lost and overwhelmed. Improving the transition for first generation students by ultimately empowering. As well as aiding the beginning of their college careers with high levels of confidence, and determination.

Over my years I’ve had many experiences and humbling reminders of the importance of representation. Coming from a diverse background I’ve learned to navigate through these spaces that oftentimes tend to alienate one. Improving Diversity and Inclusion is a key component to community building, and allowing UWB to be a remarkable campus for all students.

Lastly improving students overall experiences by truly supporting and valuing the needs and concerns of students. There is no excuse now more than ever to put our very best efforts when catering to the concerns of students. Directly taking the time, and asking what students need to be better supported in all aspects. Every single voice combined reflective of students is what makes us a community. Finding ways to ensure that each student is not only getting the full UW Bothell experience, but is also embodying it.”

Director of Student Advocacy Candidate

Why do you want to run for ASUWB?

“Being a part of student government and being able to play a role in our education is an amazing opportunity. It is a great responsibility to be the student’s voice and be the liaison between the school and our student body- one that I would love to have. Ensuring that all students feel represented and respected on our campus is truly important to me because I want my colleagues to feel safe and actually want to spend time on campus. I genuinely love spending time on campus and would love for others to feel the same way.”

What are your three main goals that you would like to accomplish during the 2022-2023 academic year?

“Overall, I hope to be able to accommodate our students’ needs and make students of all groups feel like they truly belong at this school. This can be done by planning events that celebrate our differences and connect people. I hope to make UWB a safe space where students want to spend their free time – rather than just thinking of our campus as a place to attend class. My goal would be to improve the quality of student life on campus. Listening – really listening- to our students’ opinions and doing our very best to make sure their concerns are heard and needs are met is the best way to do this. The diversity on our campus needs to be recognized and celebrated and one of my goals is to make sure that this happens.”

Why do you want to run for ASUWB?

“I want to run for ASUWB because I think I would be a good fit. Being a student myself, I feel what other students feel. I understand that school can be a stressful and nervous place to be at times. That is why I want to make a change, to make the programs and activities that make students actually want to come to school. This is supposed to be the most memorable time of their lives, not ones that they dwell on. My passion and patience would be the key to becoming a successful Director of Outreach.”

What are your three main goals that you would like to accomplish during the 2022-2023 academic year?

“Make campus social life alive, have more fun activities, and create a comfortable campus environment.”

Director of Government Relations Candidate

Marko Morrison

Why do you want to run for ASUWB?

“UW Bothell is unique. Unique in the ways students can tailor their college experience, unique in the vast representation of the student body, unique in the opportunities offered for engagement. However, in my short time in university, I’ve noticed that many job opportunities offered through UW Bothell have been tied to private groups, where the same opportunities could be found through government positions that yield better connections for young students. I, Marko Morrison, will seek to change this during my time as the Director of Governmental Relations by using interpersonal skills accumulated over many years of leadership positions (including 5 years of Model United Nations) to bridge the divide between students of UWB and the levels of government seeking young talent, as well as incorporating content directly relating to government hiring interests into the classrooms. With a better option for governmental focus in our education, a higher level of preparedness for life beyond UW will come naturally, a unique benefit for our uniquely personal campus. What are your three main goals that you would like to accomplish during the 2022-2023 academic year?

“As the Director of Governmental Relations, I would set three goals – short, intermediate, and long term – in order to increase governmental interaction and introduce topics more readily used by interest groups of the real world. My interest in running for the position of DGR bloomed when I realized the lack of courses that directly benefited my hopeful career in cybersecurity. I hope to immediately remedy this by setting up a position of a governmental correspondent to approve certain courses as being applicable to government work. Down the road, this single position is intended to grow into a committee that represents major hiring sectors of the government. And how about beyond the 2022-23 term in which I plan to serve? In such a future, I hope that any curious student will be able to choose from a catalog of highly useful courses that have either been created or approved by different departments of the state or federal government as being lucrative in their respective fields. While this may seem lofty, I believe that both students and representatives will be happy to cooperate in a mutually beneficial education program with transparency in course selection and reassurance in job prospects.”

Write-In President Candidate

Luke Scott

Why do you want to run for ASUWB?

“The past three years on this campus have afforded me so many wonderful opportunities to meet, connect with, advocate on behalf of, and collaborate with students of all identities. As captain of the debate team, a re-establisher of Pride Alliance, and through my involvement in a number of independent research projects, I have gained the skills needed to represent this community. Beyond that, I spent the most recent legislative session working for the the first woman and first openly LGBTQ+ Speaker of the House, Laurie Jinkins, as well Majority Leader, Pat Sullivan. Through this work, I formed dozens of connections to legislators and local community leaders, and I intend to build up these relationships to the benefit of UWB. In short? I love this campus, I believe in making positive change that benefits and represents this community, and I have the skills to see that end through.”

What are your three main goals that you would like to accomplish during the 2022-2023 academic year?

“Safety, Transparency, and True Representation. This means creating a safe campus, by amending the current tension regarding campus police on campus, by ensuring that testing and resources are available and appropriate per the ongoing pandemic, and by ensuring that everybody feels that they belong. Transparency, by increasing the clarity and frequency of communication between campus and the government that represents them. And, finally, True Representation: as a queer, trans student who is the son of veteran as well as the brother to a sister with an incurable illness that impact every day life, I am aggressively committed to representing every kind of student on this campus, and affording opportunities to voices that feel silenced to be heard. If you want to be heard, connected, and represented, give Scott a Shot!”

Why do you want to run for ASUWB?

“I feel like with my background in the world of digital media and marketing I have a lot to offer to help take the University of Washington Bothell to the next level with my creativity and make UWB a better place for all students and professors !”

What are your three main goals that you would like to accomplish during the 2022-2023 academic year?

“Increase engagement rate between the students and the events that take place, increase UWB’s overall social presence on the online world, make campus more lively and create a closer and tighter knit community here at UWB.”
