Amaranth Borsuk speaks in Princeton Comparative Literature Lecture Series

Last week, IAS faculty member Amaranth Borsuk joined the Department of Comparative Literature at Princeton University as part of the lecture series “Virtually Here, Virtually So,” organized by Daniel Dominguez. Her talk on April 27, “Books in Bodies; Reading from the Inside Out,” looked at artists’ books on a nano-scale that are intended to take root inside a reader’s body.

Addressing metaphors of reading as consumption within American literature, the asemic writing practices of bookworms and silkworms, and the microscopic artists’ books of Rafael Lozano-Hemmer and Jen Bervin, Borsuk’s talk is part of a larger interest in books and bodies and the ways they shape one another—a project that grows out of her publication The Book (MIT Press, 2018).
