Resident Advisor Position Information
The Resident Advisor (RA) position is a live-in position within the University of Washington Bothell. Under the direct supervision of the Resident Director, the RA established a cohesive and responsible community in their designated area by modeling and supporting issues related to diversity, facilitating the holistic development of residents through programming, referring, advising and supporting residents as they deal with academic and personal issues. RA's are expected to enforce and abide by the policies of the Office of Student Life and the University of Washington as well as Washington State and federal laws in the residence halls, demonstrate sound judgment, participate in and facilitates a team approach with coworkers, complete necessary administrative tasks and provide appropriate customer service to students and visitors. Dates of Employment
- April 1 – June 1, 2018 (Spring Training)
- September 4, 2018 - June 10, 2019 (Resident Advisor position)
April 1, 2018-June 1, 2018:
- Paid hourly at a rate of $15.45 for up to 8 hours of training
September 4, 2018 - June 10, 2019:
- Paid at a rate equal to the cost of room for the 2018-19 year (September-June).
- Stipend $400 monthly
The Resident Advisor (RA) position is a live-in position within the University of Washington Bothell. Our three-story apartments are connected with central stairwells and are programmed as a traditional residence hall. Under the direct supervision of the Resident Director, the RA will establish an inclusive and responsible community in their designated area. A successful RA will be leader in the community who demonstrates sound judgment and participates in and facilitates a team approach with all Residential Life staff.
Residential Curriculum and Community Building
- Implement the Residential Curriculum as outlined by the supervisor.
- Model and support issues related to diversity, equity and inclusive.
- Meet with new residents within one week of new occupancy, to welcome and provide orientation. RAs are expected to conduct intentional conversations as outlined by the Residential Curriculum.
- Mentor residents which includes, husky chats, referring to resources, advising and support academic and personal issues.
- Perform other duties and tasks as assigned, including Department-wide activities and initiatives. Examples may include, but are not limited to, assisting with Opening activities, resident appreciation events, and safety and security assessments.
- Be personally available to residents, provide opportunities for interaction, and promote resident involvement.
- Encourage the expression of diversity among residents and actively facilitate an environment of acceptance; act as a role model to residents; mediate conflict when appropriate, and complete roommate agreements. The RA must be approachable and display a genuine interest in the welfare and personal development of residents.
- Maintain a presence in their living community, especially during peak times when residents are active on the floor.
- Able to efficiently and effectively respond to student needs and concerns
Policy Enforcement and Emergency Response
- RAs are expected to successfully complete all duties and on call responsibilities as assigned. This includes break and holiday coverage as assigned. RAs are expected to remain in their respective building while on duty, unless otherwise directed by a supervisor.
- Responsible for consistent enforcement of all university policies as well as Washington State and federal laws. This involves the education of residents on housing policies, the establishment of an environment that promotes personal responsibility, and the encouragement of participation in upholding policies.
- Responsible for effectively and efficiently responding to student needs and emergencies.
- Assist in check-in and checkout procedures
- Complete necessary paperwork and reports on time
- Complete duty responsibilities which means sharing the duty rotation evenly with other RAs.
- Report and follow up on maintenance needs immediately
- Attend one-on-one meetings, staff meetings, in-service training sessions, other meetings and workshops
- Must be enrolled at UW during employment dates (minimum credits = 6)
- Must have and maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 prior to and throughout their employment
- Must attend all trainings and workshops, including, but not limited to:
- Spring Quarter Workshops which will be scheduled around the student class schedules (Approximately 8 hours)
- Intensive Training, Move-In Day and Welcome Week Events which will occur from September 4, 2018 – September 29, 2018. (Approximately 120 hours)
- Winter Training which will occur from January 2, 2019 – January 4, 2019 (Approximately 8 hours)
- Multi-story apartment style residence hall
